There are many people who feel stuck or creatively unfulfilled in their current positions. There are also many who are unable to decide what career direction to follow. For many of these people, a job in web dev would be perfect, however they are scared to enter the field because of how daunting it looks from the outside. Many people think that you have to be some kind of genius to be a programmer. An image no doubt shaped by the media and the persistent stereotype of the silicon valley tech nerd and the geeky coding kid. However in real life this just isn’t true, anyone can get a job in this industry, in fact you don’t even necessarily need to know how to code! All you need is a desire to learn and hard-work. There is a large variety of jobs available in the programming world such as graphic design, UX design, UI design, project management which you can follow based on your interests and skill set. Also, there are so many free resources, such as those listed here which you can access to learn from so you don’t even need a degree or a cash investment to get started (unlike the vast majority of other industries).
The bottom line is that there is no need to think that you aren’t cut out for a job in this industry just because you don’t think you are a genius or because you don’t have a degree in computer science. The world of programming is a very large tent and there is room inside for everybody! So take the plunge and come on in!
